Soi Cowboy is one of the best known red light areas in Bangkok, Thailand.
It is a short street of approximately 200 metres with around 40 bars. It is very similar to
Nana Plaza and Patpong and, as with the others, it caters mainly for the tourist and expats trade.
Bangkok expats seem to prefer Soi Cowboy as it has a more relaxed atmosphere than Nana Plaza. Most
bars do not allow Thai customers inside unless accompanied by a foreigner.
It runs parallel to Sukhumvit Road, between Sukhumvit Soi 21 (Asoke Road) and Sukhumvit Soi 23,
within walking distance from the Sky Train's Asoke Station and the Bangkok Metro Sukhumvit
Station.
Unlike Nana Plaza, it also includes several restaurants including Bangkok's most famous Fish and
Chip shop. Unlike Patpong (with its
market) it is not suitable for families as the bars cater almost exclusively for the adult
market.
Although currently less popular than Nana Plaza it has been given a thorough
facelift over the last two years and is slowly regaining in number one slot, especially amongst the
expats community to all seem to prefer it over its counterparts.
All bars currently close at 02.00, usually on the dot.
